Services offered
The Office of Student Affairs and Outreach provides a supportive and enabling environment to promote both academic and personal development of students. The section is concerned with student welfare matters that include co-curricular activities, extracurricular activities and non-academic matters that contribute towards academic and /or personal development leading to competent, ethical, fair and innovative citizens for a just, prosperous and cohesive community.
Catering services
Balanced fresh and affordable food is outsourced and provided within the University College premises. The student pays for their own meals in cash i.e., ‘Pay and Eat’ system. The food court is operational throughout the week to offer meals.
Accommodation services
MNUC does not offer on-campus accommodation at the moment. However, the University College has partnered with private investors who provide accommodation facilities that student can rent.
Sports and recreation
The University College provides a wide range of sporting activities in a bid to promote student holistic wellbeing, recreation, healthy competition, team work, talent identification and development, and social cohesion. Intra-university, inter-university and other sporting opportunities are provided to the students.
Clubs and societies
The University College encourages students to enroll in clubs, societies and performing groups as a means for channeling creativity, innovativeness, leadership skills, community outreach and professional pupilage. These societies are run by students and provide opportunities for engagement in activities of interest that add value to their academic qualifications and enhance life competencies.
Mentoring services
MNUC Mentoring Programmes promotes holistic development of students by provididng personal and group mentoring opportunities that enhance compitencies, abilities, profficency and general life skills focusing on achievement and emotional support. This program aims at guiding students to settle down faster in the University College life, develop their personal and social skill for their academic achievement, career development aiming at developing competent and ethical leaders within and outside the University College.
Community outreach
Community Outreach provides opportunity for the MNUC to connect with the community through exchange of knowledge and provision of services. Some of the activities conducted include Medical Camps, School Mentorship Programme and Career Guidance among others. The programme focus on providing opportunities for the University College to impact communities positively. The Student Affairs and Outreach Office provide coordinating services for MNUC community engagement and support students through clubs and societies to engage in community outreach programmes.
Counselling Services
Counselling is an essential pillar in student support services. Despite the fact that college life can be an amazing time, it can also be stressful due to many possible pressure such as those from academic demands, peer pressure, change, financial issues, time management among others that can lead stress, anxiety and depression. These can lead to poor mental and emotional health leading to reduced performance. Counselling services provides support, guidance to deal with such issues and referral where needed.
Career Guidance and Counselling
MNUC Career Guidance and Counselling services provides information, resources and guidance for student to make informed career decisions, pursue their career choices with passion and access professional information necessary for their innovation and creativity in their diverse career fields. The programme aims to prepare students to fully participate in learning, educational and training programmes that enable them compete in the global job market and maximize their prospects and opportunities to be successful in their careers. Additionally the service also extends to secondary schools where MNUC staff guide student on subject selection for careers of their choice.
Student Leadership and Governance
All Bona fide students of MNUC are members of Student Association Mama Ngina University College (SAMNUC). Through annual elections, students exercise their democratic rights by electing leaders who ensure representation and inclusivity.
The election process involves a campaign period, and an election fostering diplomacy and engagement among students. Elected leaders represent students in various committees and act as intermediaries between the student body and the University College Management. SAMNUC operates through two main organs: the Student Governing Council (SGC) and the Congress, as outlined in its constitution. These leaders manage different aspects of the association, including representation, committee sessions, event planning, and student welfare.
The SAMNUC leadership emphasizes values such as diplomacy, cooperation, and mutual respect, ensuring that the University College remains a platform for student engagement and leadership development, providing opportunities for students to broaden their perspectives and contribute positively to society.
